Troy holds up a nice 78cm barra taken from a deep bend in the river. An obvious ambush point for the barra on the incoming tide.

The weekend of the 5th and 6th of November saw a total of 17 teams competing in the annual Maningrida Bust Up. I was teamed up with my brother-in-law and good mate, Troy Ezzy, in his little 4.2mtr tinny and we were on the water at 5.30am on Saturday rigged up with an assortment of Reidys lures. We called our team Reidys Rajarra as the word Rajarra (pronounced ra-jada) means big barra in the Burarra language over this way. Our first few spots didnt fire as we figured so we headed to a special spot and had to walk the boat in over the shallows to catch the first of the making tide. It was well worth the effort as the following three hours saw us hooked up to barra at every spot we hit. We started with the B52 for the shallow water work and switched over to deeper lures as the tide got higher. I went for the 3mtr Little Lucifer and Troy went for a customised Judge lure both of which worked well.

At the end of the day, we finished 4th in a team of 17 boats and that wasnt a bad effort considering we had the smallest boat in the field and all our fish came in a 3 hour window.

Congrats again to Peter Price from Team Reidy's Lures/Lowrance for a new record in the ABT's (Aust Barra Tounaments). Pete landed a 130cm Barra with the help of a Reidy's Big B52 in H-GBR colours. Pete said to me that he & his team mate Jason Crofts hooked & lost at least 3 other big girls that were as big if not bigger. Pete also said whilst many anglers are using soft plastics these days he still loves using the "52's" & why not, as you maybe aware Peter recently won the Peter Faust invitational & landed the biggest fish in that as well. Colin, Karen & Staff would like to congratulate Peter Price & Frank Ohl for their tremendous win at the Peter Faust Invitational this year. Not only did they win Champion Team but Peter also won Champion Angler as well as Biggest Barra at 120cm. The team said the Big B52 was the standout lure in the chrome with black back (this colour is still in testing mode)...
